ABOUT
The Springfield Vermont Steampunk Festival is a yearly event coordinated by the
501(c)3 non-profit organization, The Steampunk Society of Vermont.
The Festival is the non-profit's primary fundraising effort with an end goal of
creating educational scholarships for local students pursuing post-high school education
in the STEAM subjects of science, technology, engineering, art, and/or math.

The Festival is a weekend long event held in a Victorian Mansion in Springfield Vermont.
Although the Festival line-up is different each year, it will always feature music, workshops,
activities for kids and adults, vendors, food, a fashion show, absinthe tasting, and much, much more.

The 2017 Springfield Steampunk Festival has a Circus Spectacular Theme.
This year expect a host of circus acts and entertainment and a
circus-themed children's program in addition to our standard festival line-up.

WHAT IS STEAMPUNK?
The term "steampunk" was originally a term coined by author K. W. Jeter
to describe a genre of fiction set in Victorian times but inclusive of modern or futuristic technology.

Many early literally works, put to paper well before the steampunk term was born
have steampunk elements such as the works of Jules Verne, HG Wells, and Mary Shelley
as many of their works blended futuristic elements with an old-world setting.

This term, describing a melding of old and new, is now applied to a variety of artistic endeavors
from literature, music, fashion, film,  décor, and visual arts.

Over time, steampunk has morphed to also include works with an American Wild West
visual appeal in addition to traditional looks of the Victorian and steam-powered eras.

Visual art with a steampunk flavor will often employ the use of gears, pipes, clocks, machines,
dirigibles, futuristic landscapes, and occasionally an octopus here and there.

Modern popular culture examples of films with steampunk elements are
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Golden Compass, Wild Wild West, 9, and Hugo.
